Palette Cleaner
20 cm x 15 cm (8" x 6") - Oil on Board
Actually I was done with my painting for the day but had quite some paint on my wooden palette. Instead of throwing it away i decided to go for a late session and clean the palette with a block study.

A Stairway Home
15 cm x 20 cm (6" x 8") - Oil on Board
This painting was inspired by the work of Lionel and Roger Penrose. They created the famous self-contained staircase on which you can go up forever in one direction or down in the other. This illusion was accomplished by an ingeneous arrangement of the steps. The goal of this work was to use color harmonies to develop a simple abstract design to create the illusion.
Law of Diminishing Returns
20 cm x 15 cm (8" x 6") - Oil on Board
"Any rate of profit, production, benefits, etc., that beyond a certain point fails to increase proportionately with added investment, effort, or skill." Random House Kernerman Webster's College Dictionary
Whenever we learn something new, our progress is fastest right at the start. Thinking this through we should start something new every day and leave the old behind. The laws of our modern society are different. There you get all the benefit, or none, by being the fraction of a second faster or a touch smarter than your competitor. Where is your clue?

Yet Another Delivery
20 cm x 15 cm (8" x 6") - Oil on Board
Block Studies are still lifes in its purest form. They are an excellent way to train color vision and the ability to create the beautiful color harmonies of realism in paintings. Many painters spend a considerable amount of time on these simple setups, to keep these skills in shape and to further improve. For this purpose i keep making wooden blocks of various colors.
