Painting Utilities

The dirty bottle contains my painting medium. I use the mixture Carol Marine recommended in her blog: 2 parts linseed oil, 1 part linseed stand oil and 1 part odorless mineral spirit (e.g. Schmincke Terpin). Works fine for me.

The bottle on the left is sunflower oil I use for cleaning my brushes. I use just that and no chemical solvents. Since i use oil for cleening my brushes stay in good shape for much longer.

I try to paint from life as much as possible but this one was done after a photo. It was taken at a side arm of the river Rhein. It would have been rather difficult to paint standing more than knee deep in the water.
